Asbestos: A Major Hazard

Asbestos was a common material used in home construction several years back. It was widely used for electrical insulation and piping insulation. Other applications of asbestos in homes included cement siding, interior insulation, patching materials, roofing shingles, door linings, pipe covers, vinyl floor tiles, ceiling boards, window sills, exterior sliding and firewalls. Materials containing asbestos are most likely to be present in homes built around 1920 and the 1980’s. 

The problem with asbestos started with advancement in technology and science brought to fore that fact that asbestos posed a health hazard linked with cancer. It was discovered that when asbestos begin to age, the shed of and are absorbed into the surrounding air.
